Children's Health Program: Bienestar/NEEMA
The Bienestar/NEEMA Coordinated School Health Program (CSHP) for Pre-K through 8th grade targets the four environments that influence children's health: classroom, gym, cafeteria, and home.
Outcomes Reported in Scientific Journals
Large studies have shown that the program has decreased obesity rates, waist circumference, BMI, glucose, insulin, and dietary fat intake; and increased dietary fiber intake and fitness levels in children.
Program Components

Physical education activities
Nutrition instruction in cafeterias
Family engagement materials
Now available as a digital interactive platform — the Bienestar/NEEMA curriculum has been adapted to a fully digital, interactive format that works synchronously with the traditional PDF materials.
Adult Health Programs
SAHRC offers two distinct programs under Adult Health Programs:
Medicare's Intensive Behavioral Therapy for Obesity (IBTO)
Bienestar Adult Healthy Lifestyle Program
The Bienestar Adult Healthy Lifestyle Program is an educational and behavioral therapy curriculum designed to prevent obesity and diabetes in adults.
It emphasizes nutrition education, physical activity, goal-setting, and self-monitoring.
The program can be delivered in community centers, schools, wellness worksites, and physician practices.
A study in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine showed that this lifestyle program was effective in decreasing participants' body weight.
National Diabetes Prevention Program (NDPP)
SAHRC offers the CDC-recognized National Diabetes Prevention Program as part of its chronic disease prevention efforts.
This program focuses on healthy eating, physical activity, and prevention of obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.
According to CDC data, participation in the NDPP can reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 58% overall and 71% for older adults.
SAHRC received the 2 Star CDC-recognition for operating the National Diabetes Prevention Program (NDPP).
